A Guide to Safety from the Organization for Autism Research
A Guide to Safety was written by parents, first responders, educators, and community members who share their strategies and resources to address safety threats that commonly arise during childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. This tool will educate parents about how to prevent and mitigate emergency events, safety threats that may affect their child in the future, and how to teach safety habits that will build a foundation for safety in adulthood.

BE SAFE The Movie (BSTM)
BE SAFE The Movie uses video modeling to show teens and adults with ASD how to interact safely with the police. Actors on the spectrum and real police and teach viewers what to do in different police encounters, ranging from a casual meeting to an arrest.
BE SAFE Teaching Edition (BSTE)
BSTE is an evidence-based teaching tool that includes BE SAFE The Movie plus a 300-page companion curriculum. Teachers and parents can use the curriculum to help diverse learners master the essential safety skills shown in Be Safe The Movie.

Care Trak Systems
Caretrak aims to protect children with special needs with home monitoring systems and tracking units. These are used by hundreds of parents across the country and abroad. Their devices alert parents when their child leaves a certain area and the tracking unit can find a child within a mile radius.
ChildIDcode
The National Autism Association has partnered with childIDcode on this important safety item for kids prone to wandering and elopement. It is vital that our children – especially those who are non-verbal – have some sort of identification should they become lost. These waterproof stickers are custom-printed with a QR code. When the code is scanned with a smartphone it will display, “I Have Autism” along with the emergency contact number that you specify. This information can still be decoded in the absence of a cell signal or WiFi.
