Public Policy Coordinator for the Commonwealth Council on Developmental Disabilities
Katie is the mother of two children with developmental disabilities. Katie’s work in policy began many years ago when she traveled to Washington DC to advocate for children receiving SSI. Her work improved children’s services and opened the door for children’s advocacy nationally for the first time in nearly twenty years. Shortly after, Katie published her story as a mother of a child with disability in The Shriver Report, by Maria Shiver. In Kentucky, Katie and her son worked with advocacy leaders to influence the passage of the Restraint and Seclusion Regulation in KY schools. Katie’s current work at the council includes educating legislators about how laws will impact persons with disabilities and their families and building stronger relationships with legislators and communities.
