Email questions to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it Teaching Language Skills to Children with Autism: An Introduction to Verbal Behavior and Applied Behavior Analysis In Working with Young Learners Workshop participants will view video footage and receive a large workbook containing information pertaining to topics discussed in the workshop including: * Using the Assessment of Basic Language & Learning Skills, Partington & Sundberg (1998) to determine skills * Identification of the four functions of behavior (both adaptive and maladaptive) * Understanding the basic principles or reinforcement, punishment, extinction, and shaping * Creating and capturing motivation for young learners to acquire language skills * Teaching non-vocal learners to use American Sign Language (ASL) as a functional communication system * Teaching vocal learners to use language under multiple conditions * Teaching imitation skills * Teaching following directions * Teaching language in the natural environment * Teaching skills using Errorless Learning * Teaching replacement skills for unwanted behaviors * Data keeping procedures for targeted skills Date: Saturday, October 8, 2005 Time: 9:30-4:30 (lunch on your own) Location: Kentucky Domestic Violence Association 111 Darby Shire Circle Frankfort, KY 40601 Email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it for questions and directions if needed. About Amanda: Amanda Ralston is a Board Certified Associate Behavior Analyst and independent Verbal Behavior consultant based in Lexington, KY. In the past seven years Ms. Ralston has worked with over 200 families with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and other developmental disabilities, as well as providing education to hundreds of parents and professionals interested in Applied Behavior Analysis and Verbal Behavior methodologies in Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio. Following the attendance of Dr. Vincent J. Carbone’s workshops #1-4, Ms. Ralston attended 90 hours of coursework in Jacksonville, FL with Carbone, Ed. D., BCBA, and began a year-long distance mentorship with him to fulfill her certification requirements prior to sitting for the national board exam in Nashville, TN. Ms. Ralston spent four years serving a multitude of roles, before eventually rising to CEO, in Kentucky’s largest in-home provider of ABA services prior to it’s closing in August of 2003. During that time she developed seven manuals and over 20 trainings pertaining to the behavioral treatment of children with ASD for the employees and parents that the company maintained. Since October of 2003, Ralston has continued to serve families and agencies across the tri-state area as an independent contractor working privately with families and providing consultation and training to schools and agencies.
