Questions about Autism?
Turning Point for Autism, Inc. would like to present Mr. Jason Garner,
M.A., workshop supervisor from the Center for Autism and Related
Disorders, who will be presenting a free forum, providing parents with
information about Applied Behavior Analysis and other behavior therapy
techniques and programs. Following the presentation, Mr. Garner
will then open the floor to parents with specific questions regarding
the implementation of such programs. Therapists and current
families from Turning Point will be on hand as well to address
questions and concerns from those eager to begin their child's
program. This forum is open to all who might be
interested--please feel free to pass the information along.

Aug 28 Autism Awareness Day |

Governor Ernie Fletcher will be signing a proclamation naming August
28, 2005 Autism Awareness Day across the Commonwealth. Kentucky
welcomes Kami Olmstead, a single mother of two boys diagnosed within
the spectrum of autism, (Justin, 9 years old, with Asperger's, and
Jonah, 6 years old, with autism) who began a 10,000 mile cross country
awareness drive, Across America for Autism, on August 7th.
Traveling in a minivan donated from Reynold’s Ford in Illinois, Kami,
Justin, and Jonah have traveled through Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York,
North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Texas,
Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Tennessee.
She arrives in Kentucky on August 28 and will conclude her journey in
Missouri and Kansas.
On Sunday, August 28th, Kami Olmstead and her children
will attend two events promoting Autism Awareness. Kami, her children,
Representative Brinkman, and Mrs. Brinkman will be at Town & County
Ford in Louisville at 1PM and the
Lexington Legends game in Applebee’s Park at 5:30PM. The Legends have joined
with the Autism Society of the Bluegrass for Autism Awareness Day at
the Game. Prior to the game, Gov. Ernie Fletcher’s Proclamation will
be read.

August 28 ASBG night at the Lexington Legends |

Sunday, August 28 will be ASBG night at the Lexington Legends game at
Applebee's Park! The game is at 6:05p.m., and 75 tickets
have been donated to ASBG. Please contact Sara Spragens as soon
as possible if your family would be interested in a maximum of 4
tickets (if you have a special need for more, be sure to ask and we'll
do what we can to accommodate you with any extras which are not
taken). We'll be mailing the tickets out with the next newsletter
very soon, so decide how many, if any, tickets you will need and let me

Northern Kentucky will be hosting the Kentucky
Biomedical Conference 2005 - Maximizing Your Child's Learning Potential
through Innovative Interventions, October 22, 8:00am to 6:15pm. Keynote speakers include: David
Kirby, author: Evidence of Harm and Boyd Haley PhD, University of
Kentucky Chemistry Department, Chairman. Other speakers include:
Maureen Pelletier MD, CCN, FACOG and DAN Practitioner;
Bradley Habermehl, OD; Jim Lavalle R.PH, NMD, CCN, founder of
www.livinglonger.com and author of
Cracking the Metabolic Code; Andrea Wrenn, owner of the Sensory
Learning Center of Northern Kentucky and mother of a child with autism, and
Michael Payne, M.S., C.R.C., C.N.S. and founder of
www.spectrumbiogenics.com
Along with nationally recognized speakers, several
excellent vendors will be available during breaks in order for you to learn
more about useful products and services to assist in your child's journey to
recovery. David Kirby's book Evidence of Harm will also be available
for sale and book signings.
Cost of the conference is $60 which includes lunch.

July 25 meeting at the Landsdowne Swim Club |

Our July 25th meeting will be held at the Landsdowne Swim Club on
Landsdowne Drive. A swim instructor, Vivian Wright, will be joining us.
Bring your suits and towels!
