Workshop participants will review video footage and receive a large
workbook containing information pertaining to topics discussed in the workshop
including:

Using the Assessment of Basic Language &
Learning Skills, Partington & Sundberg (1998) to determine skills

Identification of the four functions of behavior
(both adaptive and maladaptive)

Understanding the basic principles or
reinforcement, punishment, extinction, and shaping

Creating and capturing motivation for young
learners to acquire language skills

Teaching non-vocal learners to use American Sign
Language (ASL) as a functional communication system

Teaching vocal learners to use language under
multiple conditions

Teaching imitation skills

Teaching following directions

Teaching language in the natural
environment

Teaching skills using Errorless Learning

Teaching replacement skills for unwanted
behaviors

About the speaker:
Amanda Ralston is a Board Certified
Associate Behavior Analyst and independent Verbal Behavior consultant based in
Lexington, KY.
In the past seven years Ms. Ralston has worked with over 200 children
with Autism Spectrum Disorders and other developmental disabilities, as well as
providing education to hundreds of parents and professionals interested in
Applied Behavior Analysis and Verbal Behavior methodologies in Kentucky,
Indiana, and Ohio.
Following the attendance of Dr. Vincent
J. Carbone's workshops #1-4, Ms. Ralston attended 90 hours of coursework in
Jacksonville, FL with Carbone, Ed. D., BCBA, and began a year-long distance
mentorship with him to fulfill her certification requirements prior to sitting
for the national board exam in Nashville, TN.
Ms. Ralston travels daily to provide consultation, feedback, and training
to families, schools, and agencies regarding principles and procedures guided by
the science of Applied Behavior Analysis and the literature regarding the
behavioral classification of language known as Verbal Behavior methodology. She continues to seek additional
education in her field in order to provide up-to-date information to her
audiences and effective treatment recommendations to her
clients.
She currently contracts with Turning Point for Autism in Louisville, KY as well as
Cincinnati Center for Autism in
Cincinnati, OH to provide training and supports for
one-on-one instructors in an effort to increase the number of available tutors
in those areas.
